Basto itinerary

Leaving behind the city of Pascoaes, one travels in the direction of the Basto region. In Celorico de Basto the traditional residencial building style of Northern Portugal is evidenced. After visitng the centuries old "Castelo de Arnóia," one continues the voyage in the direction of Mondim. A visit to the top of the Senhora da Graça mount as well as to the spectacular "Fisgas do Ermelo" above the Olo river is highly recommended. Driving down the old mountain road along the Serra do Alvão, passing through Atei, Ribeira da Pena, and Moimenta, one will arrive in Cabeceira de Basto. In this idyllic mountain town, we strongly recommend a visit to the "Mosteiro (convent) de Refoios," which, erected in 670 A.D., played a vital part in the development of the region.
